A range hood that doesn't ventilate properly leaves your kitchen full of smoke, steam, and cooking odors. Whether your hood fan stopped working, the lights went out, or the ventilation seems weak, our technicians diagnose and repair all range hood types — under-cabinet, wall-mounted, island, and downdraft models.
Common Exhaust Hood Repair Problems We Fix
Fan Not Working
A hood fan that doesn't turn on may have a burned-out motor, a bad switch, or an electrical wiring issue. If the fan runs but at reduced speed, the motor bearings may be wearing out or the capacitor is failing.
Poor Ventilation
If the fan runs but smoke and steam still linger, the ductwork may be obstructed, the filters are saturated with grease, or the fan motor has lost power. We clean or replace filters, inspect ductwork, and test airflow volume.
Lights Not Working
If the hood lights are out but the fan works, the bulb socket, switch, or wiring to the light circuit may have failed. On LED hoods, the LED driver board can go bad. We test the circuit and replace the failed component.
Excessive Noise
A noisy range hood usually has loose fan blades, worn motor bearings, or a damaged fan blade hitting the housing. Vibration can also come from loose mounting hardware. We tighten, rebalance, or replace the fan assembly.
Hood Won't Turn Off
A hood that keeps running when switched off has a stuck or shorted fan switch, a relay issue, or a control board problem. We replace the faulty switch or board to restore normal on/off operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Metal mesh grease filters should be cleaned monthly — run them through the dishwasher or soak in hot soapy water with degreaser. Charcoal filters (used in recirculating hoods) cannot be cleaned and need replacement every 3-6 months.
A bad smell from the hood usually means the grease filter is saturated and needs cleaning, or the ductwork has accumulated grease buildup. Regular filter maintenance prevents this. We can deep-clean or replace filters and inspect the duct run.
Yes. An oversized hood can create negative air pressure in your home, pulling in outside air through gaps, vents, and even backdrafting gas appliance flues. Proper hood sizing matches the cooktop's BTU output.
